Following the colossal success of the original
Game Boy series, Nintendo released its follow-up, the Game Boy Advance in Europe on June 11th, 2001. It
featured better graphics, sound and boasts faster processing power.
Whereas the original Game Boy was held vertically, the GBA is laid out horizontally with two extra buttons being placed on the shoulders of the console. The screen is also wider than that of the
Game Boy.
However, it was the screen that many people had complaints about - without some kind of illumination, the screen is rather dull and can be quiet hard to see at times. Nintendo set out to rectify this with the release of the Game Boy Advance SP - a very sleek redesign of the GBA which features a back-lit
screen.A number of classic games have seen remakes on the GBA, from the Mario games to F-Zero, but there have also been a number of superb original games, such as Golden Sun and Iridion II.
