Nintendo Entertainment System
Original released in Japan in 1983 as the Famicom (short for Family Computer), the NES system is one of the biggest selling systems ever, selling over 70 million consoles and over 350 million games around the world.

After struggling to find a distribution partner in the West, Nintendo went it alone and released the NES in the US in 1985 and the following year in Europe. Thanks in part to Nintendo's policy of agreeing to buy back any unsold units, the NES went on to be a massive success, giving Nintendo a 90% market share by 1987.

The NES is home to some classic versions of now-established Nintendo favourites such as Mario, Zelda and Metroid. There were also a number of weird and wonderful accessories including ROB the robot, a full-sized music keyboard and a mat to run on.
